Room Kiss Machine #7 Launch at Canzine (Gladstone Hotel, Toronto, 2003) |
Kiss Machine's seventh issue
launched in a roomful of secrets at Canzine
(Canada's biggest zine fair and indie culture fest), which took place at
the notoriously seedy Gladstone
Hotel in Toronto.
The Gladstone buzzes with the spirits of previous guests--all those by-the-week renters, day-time quickie visitors and other characters who grasp at the fringes of urban life. Its little anonymous rooms are filled with the secret things that have taken place within their walls over the decades. To celebrate our secretive natures (and downtrodden hotels everywhere), we filled one of the rooms on the second floor with our deepest, most painful secrets. Throughout the day, people (friends and strangers) contributed. There were balloons and apples. KM's incredibly talented, magnificently bombastic cover artist Julie Voyce was in attendance. She even helped burst a bunch of secret balloons at the end of the day. We documented the room's progress from emptiness to bursting with secrets and people. Click through the photos below and watch some teeny movies. Think about your most buried secrets. If you get inspired, e-mail them to us. And remember: your secrets are safe with Kiss Machine. --The Editors, Kiss Machine |
